I think it's been done after production to increase value. It seems that the red paint was not very durable to heavy use and cleaning. It depends on the overall condition. The small bore model 37's have more value than the 12 gauge.

Basically it's a red letter, has full on the barrel, and has the standard barrel release paddle. From what i read, the only guns that should have full on the barrel are the first year guns.
